The dot SE country-code domain extension was started in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very low number of domains were purchased. Individuals were allowed to purchase only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations could grab a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.
